has any geologist & garden-lover you know, created a rock-feature, showing [-with rocks] all of geologic time:?
either in the form of a ground-level rockery....or better still, creating an artificial vertical rockface, that contains every conceivable type of rock from every geological era....a sort of a rock mosaic that shows the passage of geologic time from a billion years ago right up to the modern era.
surely this would be a fascinating project and far more interesting to look at than lumps of rock in a dusty old wooden box?
i'm not sure about how long such a feature would last with natural weathing in a garden, but i would love to be able to view such a wall made of real rocks.....rather than photographs in a book.
i am thinking someone must have done something like this in the uk.....the home of gardening geology And geology....but if not....maybe you would like to give it a go? !
I am unaware of anyone doing so
But you may wish to ask people in rockhounding clubs to see if anyone has ever heard of such thing
There are museums showing rocks from different geologic periods, but I don't know of any who did so in a garden format. Anyway, It sounds like a great idea
I think most rocks would last several centuries at least, exposed in natural conditions
some carbonate rocks will weather faster than other rocks, but will still easily last several human lifetimes
