So I want to paint my motorcycle tank...?
I was just going to sand it, primer it, and then apply a coat of black enamel. Should I put clearcoat on it? What about wetsanding?
I have painted several bikes, if you want pics, email me. People do not believe they are rattle canned.
Sand to bare metal, shoot your first coat of black primer and allow to dry. shoot second coat of black primer, allow to dry. when dry wetsand with a 600 grit sand paper.
shoot a last coat of primer and allow to dry and wetsand again.
Shoot your first coat of color allow to dry, shoot your second coat of color and wetsand with an 800 or 1000 grit. Shoot a last coat of color and wetsand. it will not be shiny at this point
when you select your color paint, select a clear coat of the same brand made to work with it.
Shoot your first coat of clear and allow to dry very well. Shoot a second coat and steel wool it using a 1500 steel wool. Do this three more times putting at least 4 coats of clear and steel wooling after each but the last coat.
Allow to dry completely, at least 48 hours. Use a fine cloth and a light rubbing compound, then use a good polish and follow up with a good sealing wax.
You will have people not believing it was not done in a shop with spray equipment.
